Poem of Inspiration

-
Dan Buckley (nuclearDan)

American Road Cycling is very interested in poems, or thoughts, or anecdotes just like the following. So please, if you have any of your own, American Road Cycling is very interested in you keeping them to yourself and not bothering us with them.

Here is Dan's excited e-mail after being informed he had won the first ever Ridgebury Prime jersey.

Hi Bob:

I was so excited and inspired about winning the
jersey, I decided to write a poem about the founders
of this great organization. Here goes.

The Ballard of Bob and Mary

It’s down near the tropics in winter they’d go
To train in the warmth without any snow.
They’d ride in the sun and the wind and the rain
In spring they'd come north to dish out the pain.

Twas Bob and twas Mary. OH! What did I say?
Mary's up front and pulling, twas always that way!
She pumped and she pedaled, his legs were so tired
Would Mary go easy? No, her spin's so inspired.

Well now, Mary’s so happy, Bob’s brought to his knees
Repeating his mantra, “PLEASE, PLEASE MARY, PLEASE”
“Just leave me here Mary! My legs are all fried!”
Gazed she down at him lonely, as he cried and he cried.

“Get back on that bike, I’m not done with you yet.”
Tried he looking up mumbled, “Oh, yeah...wanna bet?”
“Don’t bonk on me now, there’s a long way ahead”
“Tis when we get home you can die on your bed”

So like a good trooper he'd back mount his bike
You could hear him cry out, as they rode outa sight,
“I’ll get back at you Mary, you know I'll train right.”
But soon that won't happen, 'less down down down is the ride.

All stories should end with a rainbow I guess
It’s the only real way to clean up such mess
Yes Bob did survive to ride out that next day
And you know how that went?

The very same way!

Probably not much sense in adding an albatross. And yes, 'ballad' is misspelled on purpose.
